Coverage Types

Every line of coverage a cannabis operation actually needs — written by people who know the difference.

Cultivation crop loss isn’t the same as warehouse property. Product recall isn’t the same as general liability. We build programs from these 14 specialty lines — only the ones your license, footprint, and risk profile actually require.

01

General Liability

The foundation policy — slips, falls, third-party property damage at your premises.

Bodily-injury and third-party property claims at your dispensary, cultivation site, lab, or office. Covers customer slip-and-falls, premises injuries, advertising injury, and personal injury claims like libel or slander. Cannabis-specific endorsements include marijuana liability and assault & battery extensions.

Premises liability up to $5M per occurrence
Personal & advertising injury
Assault & battery extension available
Hired & non-owned auto add-on
02

Product Liability & Recall

For everything you sell that someone consumes, vapes, smokes, or applies.

If a consumer is harmed by your flower, edible, vape cart, tincture, or topical — this is the line that responds. We negotiate product liability with carriers who write cannabis specifically (no THC-content exclusion, no ingestible exclusions). Recall expense is offered as a sublimit, including notification, retrieval, and disposal costs.

No THC or ingestible exclusions
Product withdrawal & recall expense
Bodily injury & property damage from product
Vape pen & concentrate endorsements
03

Property & Crop

Building, contents, equipment, finished goods — and live plants.

Two markets, one program: traditional commercial property for buildings, contents, BPP, leasehold improvements, and equipment breakdown — plus cannabis-specific live plant and harvested crop coverage. We replace standard fire/theft exclusions with cannabis-aware language. Stock at retail and finished inventory in transit are covered separately.

Live plants at all growth stages
Harvested & finished stock inventory
Building, contents, equipment breakdown
Business interruption & extra expense
04

Workers’ Compensation

State-mandated — with carriers who actually understand cannabis class codes.

Every state we write in requires workers’ comp. Cannabis cultivation, manufacturing, and retail get different class codes than generic agriculture or retail — and standard carriers often refuse the risk entirely. We place comp with markets who quote cannabis classes correctly, so your premiums reflect actual exposure rather than punitive defaults.

Correct cannabis class-code rating
All seven Northeast states
Experience-mod review at renewal
Loss control & safety consulting
05

Commercial Auto & Cargo

Transport, delivery, fleet — including in-transit product value.

Whether you operate a single van or a multi-state transporter fleet, we write the auto liability, physical damage, and cargo lines together. In-transit cannabis cargo is the line standard carriers refuse most often — our specialty markets quote it with theft, damage, and hijacking included.

Owned, hired, & non-owned auto
Cannabis cargo in transit (full value)
Theft & hijacking coverage
Distributor & transporter licenses welcome
06

Cyber & Crime

Data breach, ransomware, employee theft — and cash on the premises.

Dispensaries store more cash on-site than almost any other retail vertical, and cannabis tech stacks (POS, METRC, seed-to-sale) are increasingly cloud-based. Cyber covers breach response, ransomware, network business interruption, and regulatory defense. Crime covers employee theft, robbery, in-transit cash, and forgery. We almost always pair the two.

Breach response & forensics
Ransomware payment & recovery
Employee theft & embezzlement
On-premises & in-transit cash
07

Directors & Officers / EPLI

Management liability — investor suits, employment practices, regulatory actions.

Cannabis ownership structures attract scrutiny — from investors, the state, the IRS, and former employees. D&O protects directors and officers personally from wrongful-act allegations. EPLI (Employment Practices Liability) responds to wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, and wage-hour claims. Both are essential for any operator with outside investors or 5+ employees.

Wrongful acts & investor suits
Regulatory defense (state & OCM)
Wrongful termination, harassment, discrimination
Wage & hour sublimit
08

Specialty & Excess Lines

The seven lines most generalist brokers won’t even quote.

Larger operators and unique exposures need specialty layers. Excess liability stacks above your primary GL/product/auto limits. Environmental impairment responds to remediation costs. Equipment breakdown covers boilers, chillers, and HVAC. Errors & omissions covers ancillary service providers (consultants, lab work, software). We place these as “quiet” layered programs that don’t bloat your insurance budget.

Excess & umbrella liability ($5M–$25M+)
Environmental impairment
Equipment breakdown (HVAC, chillers)
Errors & omissions (ancillary & service providers)
Surety bonds for license requirements
Builder’s risk for new builds & expansions
