Why ICONN

Most insurance brokers don’t get cannabis. We do — and we’ve been doing it since day one of Northeast legalization.

Cannabis-specialty markets

Direct appointments with A-rated cannabis carriers — including specialty markets most brokers can only quote through a wholesaler.

Compliance-first underwriting

We read your state license, OCM rules, and SOPs before we quote. Less surprises at audit time.

Operator’s mindset

We move at startup speed because our clients do. No corporate translation layer between you and the underwriter — just brokers who think like founders.

Quotes in days, not months

Submit once. We market across our carrier panel and come back with terms — typically within 5 business days.

Service Area

All of New England. All of New York. One licensed broker.

If your operation crosses state lines — and most multi-license cannabis businesses eventually do — you shouldn’t have to juggle seven brokers, seven carriers, and seven renewal calendars. ICONN writes the whole region under one roof.

How It Works

From first call to bound policy in five business days.

01

Tell us your license

A 5-minute conversation about your state, license type, headcount, and the kind of operation you run.

02

We market your risk

Your application goes to our panel of cannabis-friendly A-rated carriers — we’ll pull at least three options.

03

We present terms

A clear side-by-side: limits, exclusions, premium, deductible. No insurance-jargon decoder ring needed.

04

You bind. We stay.

Sign, pay, and you’re covered. Then a real human stays on your file for claims, audits, and renewal.

Why Operators Choose ICONN

A broker who actually knows what an OCM compliance letter looks like.

Cannabis isn’t a side line for us — it’s a specialty. Six things our clients tell us they don’t get from generalist brokers:

01

License-aware quoting

We read your CT DCP, MA CCC, NY OCM, or other state license before quoting. Coverage is matched to what you’re actually allowed to do — not a generic template.

02

Carrier panel built for cannabis

Direct relationships with A-rated cannabis-specialty carriers and Lloyds syndicates. We don’t market your account into the void.

03

Seed-to-sale program design

Vertically integrated? We bundle cultivation crop, manufacturing product liability, and dispensary retail into one program — usually with measurable premium savings.

04

Claims-side advocacy

When a claim hits, you call us — not a 1-800 number. We push the carrier, document the loss, and stay until it’s closed.

05

Renewal as a process, not an email

90 days before renewal we re-market, re-benchmark, and re-negotiate. You see your options before the policy lapses — not after the price goes up.

06

Local. Truly local.

Headquartered in Connecticut, licensed across the Northeast, related to a 3-generation family insurance brokerage. We’re not a Silicon Valley platform.

Operator Voices

The Northeast cannabis industry, in their own words.

Real feedback from cultivators, dispensary owners, and processors we’ve placed coverage for across the region.

“Our last broker quoted us $84k for product liability and shrugged. ICONN came back at $46k with broader limits and an actual cannabis carrier on the policy. They just understood the risk.”

Marcus Vega

CEO · Hartford-area Cultivator

“We had a slip-and-fall in our Worcester store and ICONN had the claim handler engaged within the hour. They didn’t make us chase paperwork. That alone is worth the premium.”

JP

Jasmine Patel

COO · MA Adult-Use Dispensary Group

“As a vertically integrated NY operator we had policies stacked across four brokers. ICONN consolidated everything into one program and we’re saving close to 18% with broader limits across the board.”

DR

Devon Ramirez

Founder · NY Vertically Integrated MSO

“Our extraction facility had a CO₂ leak that took out two weeks of production. ICONN’s claims team got us business interruption proceeds in under 30 days. That kept the lights on.”

SR

Sara Reyes

Operations Director · CT Manufacturer

“They asked about our SOPs before they wrote the quote. Nobody else did that. We’re a small lab — it mattered that they cared what we actually do.”

Insights & Guidance

Field notes from the front lines of cannabis insurance.

Real claims, regulatory updates, and what we’re telling our operators this month.

Common Questions

Everything Northeast cannabis operators ask us — before they sign.

If your question isn’t here, we promise to answer it on a 15-minute call. No insurance jargon, no hard sell.

Ask Us Anything

Standard commercial policies almost universally exclude cannabis — even after legalization. If your business handles a federally controlled substance, a generalist policy will deny the claim. Cannabis-specialty carriers like the ones on our panel underwrite the risk explicitly: cultivation, manufacturing, retail, transit, products, the works.

We’re licensed across Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, and New York. Multi-state operators get one consolidated program instead of a separate broker per state.

For straightforward retail and ancillary risks: 3-5 business days from completed application to bound coverage. Vertically integrated and crop-heavy submissions take 7-10 business days because the underwriters want more documentation. We tell you the realistic timeline up front.

Premiums are locked for the policy term (usually 12 months). If your state changes regulations mid-term that materially expand your exposure — say, you go from medical-only to adult-use — we’ll re-rate at renewal. We’ll never surprise you with a mid-term hike without notice.

Both. Plant-touching operators (cultivators, manufacturers, dispensaries, distributors, testing labs) get the full specialty program. Ancillary businesses (packaging, security, software, consulting, equipment, lighting) often need errors & omissions plus general liability — also part of our book.

Wide range — depends on revenue, headcount, license type, building, claims history, and state. A small adult-use dispensary might run $14k-$22k/year for a complete program. A vertically integrated multi-state operator can be in six figures. We tell you a realistic number on the first call — before doing the paperwork.

You call us first — not the carrier. We open the claim, push the adjuster, gather your documentation, and stay involved until it’s closed. Cannabis claims are unusual, and most adjusters need handholding. That’s what we’re for.
